Torcross and Start Bay
Start Bay arcs from the Dartmouth area down to Start Point. Wonderful place.
Highlights include Blackpool Sands (Beach), Slapton Sands (Beach), Torcross, Bee Sands (Beach), Beesands, Hall Sands (Beach), Hallsands, Hallsands Lost Village/Ruined Village and Start Point.
Torcross and Slapton Sands
Slapton Sands (Beach) is a huge shingle beach stretching for miles along the coastline.
A road runs behind the beach and Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve.
There are plenty of parking spots along the way including one at Torcross.
Torcross and Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve
Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve is a beautiful National Nature Reserve known for its seasonal starlings roosts (if this is of interest, see also Okehampton Starling Roosts on our sister site Holiday in Dartmoor).
Torcross Start Bay Inn
Start Bay Inn is located on the sea front overlooking Slapton Sands and Start Bay. Alternatively, try the cafe Sea Breeze. There's another pub called The Tradesman's Arms inland at Stokenham and The Cricket Inn is just down the coast at Beesands. Britannia @ The Beach is also in Beesands.
For food, drink and other items there's also Start Bay Stores in Torcross.
Torcross Sherman Tank and the Normandy Landings Monument
Torcross Sherman Tank commemorates the tragic events surrounding a dress rehearsal for D-Day called Exercise Tiger. During the exercise, German E-Boats attacked the convoy. Over 600 sailors and soldiers lost their lives.
Torcross South West Coast Path walk
There's a fine stretch of the South West Coast Path between Dartmouth and Start Point. From Torcross, we'd recommend wandering to Beesands, Hallsands and Start Point before returning.

In addition to Slapton Sands (Beach), this area of South Devon is known for its beaches.
Blackpool Sands (Beach) is extremely popular.
Bantham Beach and Bigbury-on-Sea Beach are up there with the best beaches in the UK.

If you're on holiday with kids then spand a day or two at Woodlands Park. Great fun.
The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary near Torcross
Many of the UK's finest estuaries are located in the Westcountry. The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary is up there with the best. From Torcross, head to Kingsbridge and take the ferry down the estuary to Salcombe.
