Start Bay Inn is in the pretty coastal village Torcross in South Devon. The impressive shingle beach Slapton Sands (Beach) runs north and north east of the village and forms part of Start Bay after which the inn is named. Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve is nearby.

Directions and parking for Start Bay Inn
Follow the A379 from Kingsbridge of Dartmouth. You'll come to Torcross.
There's a large car parking area at the north end of the village. You then wander behind the sea wall to Start Bay Inn.
Alternatively, use the car parking areas behind the middle of Slapton Sands (Beach) by the Slapton Sands Memorial and walk down the beach to Start Bay Inn. It's about 2km. If you find walking on shingle too slow or difficult then there are paths that run along the back of the beach to Torcross. You can also cross the road and walk along the side of Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve.
Things to do near Start Bay Inn
Follow the South West Coast Path north of Start Bay Inn and you'll come to Blackpool Sands (Beach). This is a popular family beach with great facilities. It's a private beach so charges apply. Beyond that are Dartmouth Castle (English Heritage) and Dartmouth.
Walk south on the coastal path from Start Bay Inn and you'll pass Bee Sands (Beach) on your way to Hall Sands (Beach). In the distance, you'll see Start Point Lighthouse on Start Point. Both walks are superb.
Make sure you see the Torcross Sherman Tank by Start Bay Inn.
Explore Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve as well. The latter is known for its starling roosts.
Other things to do in the local area
Inland, visit the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary. It's fun to take the ferry from Kingsbridge to Salcombe. On a sunny day, the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary is one of the most extraordinary places in the Westcountry.
If you have kids, Woodlands Park is essential South Devon visiting.
