Directions for Starehole Bay

To visit, descend the South West Coast Path from Bolt Head via Soar or The Rags via Salcombe. You can also walk in on the path that runs down Starehole Bottom.

Starehole Bay

To its north is the superb Sharp Tor (Salcombe). To its south is Bolt Head. The valley at Starehole Bottom pushes inland here. We cannot recommend highly enough the views from the top of Sharp Tor (Salcombe).

There's a small cove and plenty of rocky areas down by the shore. The South West Coast Path runs along the side of the bay and offers superb walking and views. If you're up for a longer walk, head west along the coastal path to Soar Mill Cove (Beach) and Bolberry Down.

Given its sheltered location, in high summer or busy times, you'll usually find families at play in speedboats in the sea here.

Starehole Cove (Beach)

Starehole Cove (Beach) is a small rock and sand beach in Starehole Bay close to the mouth of the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary.

The bay is often used for water sports (see our 'Photo Gallery' for Starehole Bay). It also offers top views across the sea to Prawle Point.

We'd recommend walking from Starehole Cove (Beach) to the top of Sharp Tor (Salcombe). The views up the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary to Snapes Point are particularly impressive.
