If you're spending a good chunk of holiday time in the Salcombe area then we'd recommend heading to the various viewpoints around the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary. Snapes Point and Sharp Tor provide exceptional views. The viewpoint from the small car parking area up in East Portlemouth near the church provides a classic view of Salcombe and the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary.
Location of East Portlemouth (viewpoint to Salcombe and the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary)
East Portlemouth is located on the east side of the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary across the water from Salcombe. The small village rises from the sandy foreshore up a steep hill to St Winwaloe's Church high above the estuary. There's a small car parking area just down the road from the church that provides big views of the area.

Directions and parking for East Portlemouth (viewpoint to Salcombe and the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary)
Most people stay in Salcombe whilst visiting the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary. Take the Salcombe East Portlemouth Ferry to the slipway on the sandy foreshore below East Portlemouth. Climb the ferry steps and you'll see the Venus Cafe to your left. A path ascends in front of you to the viewpoint.
If you're driving to the small car parking area at the viewpoint, follow local signs for East Portlemouth. Whilst you're on the east side of the estuary, also visit East Prawle and the magnificent Start Point with its views of Start Bay.

The views are exceptional. Salcombe is below to the west and north west.
Snapes Point is across the water to the north.
The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary and Kingsbridge are beyond that.
On a clear day, you'll see Dartmoor National Park on the horizon.
Things to do near East Portlemouth (viewpoint to Salcombe and the Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary)
Having enjoyed the view, we'd recommend dropping back down to the Venus Cafe and then following the estuary south and east. If it's low tide, walk the long stretch of exposed sand.
Other viewpoints in the local area
Snapes Point provides super views down the estuary to the sea. East Portlemouth and its beaches are to the east. Salcombe is to the west.
Sharp Tor is located south of Overbeck's Garden and Museum (National Trust) and is way above the estuary. The views from up top are immense. Continue to Bolt Head for views along the coast.
