Saltram (National Trust), Plymouth, South Devon
National Trust property and one of the UK's finest early Georgian houses on the outskirts of Plymouth
One of the UK's finest early Georgian houses, Saltram is a neoclassical house built in the middle of the eighteenth century.
There are excellent gardens. Both house and gardens sit within a superb park that runs along the River Plym and the Plym Estuary. According to the National Trust, it's 'the largest natural open space within easy reach of Plymouth'. The park includes Blaxton Meadow, a managed saltmarsh on the banks of the River Plym. The views from the gardens and park towards Plymouth are wonderful.
Saltram (National Trust) was a location in the 1995 'Sense and Sensibility' (the one with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslett, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman).
