Great pub in village behind Bantham Beach
Bantham is a South Devon village by one of South West England's most beautiful beaches. At low tide, the sand at Bantham Beach pushes out towards Burgh Island. It's a good spot for a pub. It's a superb spot for coastal and estuary walking.
For walks from The Sloop Inn, head east on the South West Coast Path. You fringe a golf course on your way to Thurlestone Island Sands/(Thurlestone Golf Course Beach), Thurlestone Leas Foot Sand (Beach) and South Milton Sands/Thurlestone Sand (Beach). On a clear day, the views from this stretch of UK coast are up there with the best.
An alternative to the coast walk is the Avon Estuary Walk. This route is marked on Ordnance Survey mapping.
Bantham Beach is known for its surfing and sea sports. Across the water, explore Bigbury-on-Sea Beach and walk to the top of Burgh Island. The island is home to the Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel and The Pilchard Inn. At high tide, you can cross the water in the Burgh Island Sea Tractor.
