English Riviera Country Park

Cockington Country Park is a superb and very popular country park close to the sea front and Torquay in The English Riviera. It's packed with places to eat and drink, craft and art studios and independent retailers. There are galleries, scultpures in a walled garden, an arboretum, lakes and plenty of country walks. The county park centres on a big house called Cockington Court that looks out on a cricket pitch and pavillion.

Cockington Country Park is ideal for families with young kids or those looking for a leisurely day out.

 

Location of Cockington Court Country Park

The northern section of The English Riviera arcs from Torquay to Paignton. The village Cockington and Cockington Country Park are located in the countryside behind the coast between these two seaside towns.

Torre Abbey is to the east. Occombe Farm is to the south west. The A380 runs west of Cockington and provides easy access if you're visiting from other areas within South Devon.

Directions and parking for Cockington Country Park

If you're visiting by car from other areas within South Devon then head for the A380 that runs west of Cockington. Take one of roads that runs off the roundabouts on the A380 towards the coast and then follow local signs and skinny lanes to the country park. There's no definitive route to Cockington Country Park and your journey depends on which direction you're coming from.

The main car parking areas are off Cockington Lane in the centre of Cockington. These are clearly visible on Google's satellite imagery. There's a smaller car park off Totnes Road. Charges apply.

If you're staying in The English Riviera and are a keen walker then it's fun to wander up to Cockington Country Park. Follow the South West Coast Path to Livermead Sands and then take the John Musgrave Heritage Trail/Torbay-Totnes Trail inland to Cockington.

Cockington is the village. It's known for its pretty thatched buildings and narrow lanes.

 

Cockington Court

Cockington Court is the old mansion house at the heart of the country park.

Today, its buildings host a wide range of craft and art studios and independent retailers. Buy glass, metal, slate and jewellery all worked on site.

There's also a fine cricket pitch and pavillion.

 

Cockington Country Park

Cockington Country Park is the modern country park in which Cockington Court sits. Covering a massive 420 acres, there are woods, lakes, an arboretum and children's play areas.

For food and drink try The Drum Inn or one of the country park's many tea rooms and cafes. Enjoy ice creams and artisan chocoate on site.
