South Sands beach

South Sands is a beautiful sand beach looking out across The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary. The hotel is situated at the back of the beach.

 

South Sands sea tractor and taxi to Salcombe

Ordinarily, you have to drive or walk from your hotel to the local town. At South Sands, you can hop on the sea tractor that takes you out to a water taxi that delivers you to the heart of Salcombe.

 

The National Trust's Overbeck's Garden and Museum

Just south of South Sands, in easy walking distance up a steep road, is Overbeck's. The garden is beautiful.

 

Sharp Tor

A path runs past Overbeck's to Sharp Tor. This rocky outcrop rises vertically from the sea. The views are up there with the best you'll see in South West England. Amazing place on a clear day.

 

The South West Coast Path

South Sands is on the South West Coast Path. Walk north east to Salcombe or south and then west along the coastline. If you chose the latter, Soar Mill Cove is wonderful

 

The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary

South Sands is on the western side of this remarkable estuary. Take a boat trip up to Kingsbridge to see the area by water.

 

East Portlemouth beaches (Small's and Fisherman's Coves) and Mill Bay beach

In addition to South Sands, the estuary is lined with many beautiful beaches. Head for Salcombe and take the water taxi across to East Portlemouth to enjoy its beaches. Mill Bay beach is a sublime National Trust beach.

There's a restaurant at South Sands. Salcombe is packed with pubs and restaurants.

 

Boat trips to sea
