Exeter's Underground Passages, Exeter, South Devon

Medieval tunnels running underneath the city of Exeter

Exeter's Underground Passages are medieval tunnels running underneath the city of Exeter. The tunnels were built to supply water to the city. According to the guidebook, 'no similar system of passages can be explored by the public elsewhere in Britain'.

Today, you can experience a guided tour in the tunnels. There's a visitor centre where you learn about the tunnels. You also watch a short video before the guided tour starts. Whilst it's an amazing experience, don't try this is you're claustrophobic.

Location

Exeter's Underground Passages are located at the top of Exeter Princesshay. John Lewis is across the way.

We've positioned the passages on Google maps. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see their location.
