Hound Tor, Bovey Tracey, South Devon

Impressive, popular and very easily accessible Dartmoor tor

One of Dartmoor's most impressive and popular tors, Hound Tor is located in the east section of the National Park across the valley from Haytor Rocks. As is the case with Haytor Rocks, Hound Tor is very easily accessible.

Location of Houd Tor (East Dartmoor)

We've positioned Hound Tor (East Dartmoor) on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

As you'll see on that satellite imagery, there's a car park just north west of the granite outcrops and one can walk to the tor from the surrounding area.

Note that there are a few Hound Tors on Dartmoor but this one, in the east section of the National Park, is the best.

Hound Tor

The views from Hound Tor are exceptional. Most notable are Haytor Rocks to the south east. To the south west are Honeybag Tor and Chinkwell Tor, Hamel Down and Widecombe in the Moor. To the south, you'll see Saddle Tor and Rippon Tor. To the north are Hayne Down and Bowerman's Nose.

When visiting the area we'd recommend the Haytor Rocks to Hound Tor Circular Walk.

Also explore Hound Tor Abandoned Medieval Settlement (English Heritage) which sits below the tor.

Last, the wonderfully named Hound of the Basket Meals sells food and drink at the car park!
