Burgh Island, Bigbury-on-Sea, South Devon

Stunning tidal island on the South Devon coast

The setting for several Agatha Christie novels, Burgh Island is located across a stretch of sand (or sea when the tide's in) from Bigbury-on-Sea.

The island provides magnificent views of the South Devon coastline. There are many paths offering easy access to the summit from which you'll get the best views.

Home to the famous Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel, we'd recommend staying here for special occasions. You can book a table at the restaurant. There's a pub called the Pilchard Inn on the island, too.

To get to the island, walk across Bigbury-on-Sea Beach when the tide's out. When the tide's in, take the Burgh Island Sea Tractor.

We'd recommend visiting local beaches such as Bantham Beach and Challaborough Beach. Also walk the South West Coast Path here. The section to the east heading towards Thurlestone has amazing views and is a joy to walk.
